All Materials
The “All Materials” tab of the Shelf is designed to be a consolidated list of materials when students are in multiple terms or when a term has ended but the material is still available. Materials are available depending on a user’s license to the material
Active Licenses
Users are considered “licensed” for a material if the user has opted in to the material via an opting program and if the license duration has not expired. All materials with active licenses are displayed in “All Materials”.
Expired Licenses
Users' licenses are considered “expired” if the number of days on the license duration has elapsed. For example, a 180-day license would expire 180 days after access was first granted.
Term Shelves
Prior to each academic term, institutions set up a course schedule and add rosters in RedShelf 2.0. If RedShelf detects a user’s account in a term, the user will see a “term shelf” at the visibility date specified by the institution.
Opting in or out of access programs and materials offered by the institution must be done from the term shelf.
Types of Course Materials
eBooks
eBooks are delivered through RedShelf’s eReader. In the event that a user has been assigned the same eBook in multiple sections in the same term, RedShelf will only charge the user once for a single term-length license. For this reason, the user’s choice to opt in or out of the eBook offer applies for all sections in the term.
Courseware
Each publisher delivers their own courseware. Users must access their courseware by returning to their LMS (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas, D2L, or Moodle) and locating the publisher’s tool.
Physical items (transient)
Users may have physical items on their shelves when a digital book was not an option or when a course requires additional equipment. These types of items will be shown within users' term shelves with a status indicating whether or not the item has been delivered or picked up.
Library items (transient)
Users may have library items on their shelves when a course includes a title available digitally from their institution’s library. When included in a course, the library item will include a link to the material’s page on the library website.
