How to Turn on Two-factor Authentication
- If you have a new phone and need to have it re-setup, you should be able to follow these steps.
- If you get stuck, or cannot advance without entering a code, please contact IT Support
First make sure you are logged into a Google site with your RedShelf account. The easiest starting point, is simply Gmail.
From there, click on the GSuite button in the upper right corner, and then the Google Account button
This will open a new window, which is the general Google Account page. From here a number of security settings can be updated or changed as needed within your account.
- If you are unsure of what you are looking for, or where you are going within this page, it is usually best to leave the default options in place
From here, click on the Security option on the left side of the screen.
This will take you to the security page, where you will be able to setup the 2-step verification.
Scroll down to the very next section, until you see the words 2-step verification:
Click on that section to open the new window.
Before you can advance, you will need to enter your Google account password.
Enter the information, and click Next
If you are faced with a screen that requires you to provide your MFA code, do not panic, simply reach out to IT Support, and you can get setup with a backup code that will also allow you to advance.
Once the password is entered, the new screen will allow you to change phones.
This will cause a new window to pop-up and allow you to scan a new QR code into your authenticator app of choice. Select your phone type, click NEXT; then scan the QR code, and again click NEXT; finally enter the new code, and click VERIFY to complete the upgrade.
This will create a new code on your phone that will allow access to the variety of Google apps.
