RedShelf utilizes two separate file types: PDFs and EPUBS. Due to differences in each of the file types, our Appearance Settings menu has been catered to that file type’s capabilities. In this section, you will see the Features located on each of these menus.
How to determine whether your book is a PDF or EPUB
First of all, to determine the file type of your book, you can find this information in two places, both before purchasing and after. On the RedShelf store page of your book, under the eBook Features section, the listing will specifically mention the file type of the book.
This information can also be found on Your Shelf, after you have purchased the book and added the book to your Shelf. Simply click on the book in question and the information is shown on the Product Details page, seen before entering the book.
ePub Appearance Settings
Located in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, the Appearance Settings menu can be found here.
Clicking on this button will open the Appearance Settings Menu.
Font Size
The first section deals with font size. Here you can increase, decrease or pick a set font size. The Magnifying Glass icons will decrease or increase the font size to your needs (anywhere from 20% to 200%). Each click will increase or decrease the font by 20%. The drop-down menu found between these buttons lists every possible font size and lets you click directly on the size you like.
Theme
The second section allows the user to change themes to make the text easier to read. We employ the following themes: Default, Sepia, Night, and High Color Contrast. Clicking on one of these options automatically converts the book into that color scheme.
Font
The third option allows the user to change the font of the book. There are several options to choose from. These options are Default, Old Style, Modern, Sans, Humanist, Monospace and OpenDyslexic. Clicking on the font name will automatically convert the text to that font.
Letter Spacing
The fourth option is Letter Spacing. This option allows the user to alter the spacing between letters. The viable options are Default, Tighter, and Looser. Simply choosing an option automatically changes the spacing.
Line Height
The fifth option allows the user the ability to change the distance between lines of text. The user can choose between the default option, 1.5 and 2.5. Picking one of these options changes the line height immediately.
Margins
The sixth option gives the user an option to change the size of the margins of the pages of the textbook. One can choose between default margins, narrower margins, and wider margins. When an option is selected, the margins are instantly reformatted.
Reset to Default
The final option allows the user to reset the default settings of the previous six settings. Click on this button to immediately change the font size, theme, font, line spacing, line height, and margins back to the default settings.
PDF Appearance Settings
