Note-taking is a crucial study practice for many students. Here’s how to create annotations on our eReader!
How To Know Your eBook is on Version 6 of Our Platform
This article is only helpful if your eBook is on Version 6. When you click “Start Reading” or “View eBook” your loading graphic will be four blinking blue dots as pictured below.
The URL will include “r/s/0/doc/” as well - for example:
If you're seeing different loading dots and a different URL, check out our annotation guide for Version 5!
How To Highlight
Use your cursor or finger to select the text you wish to notate. Releasing the click/removing your finger will summon a menu box with the option to change your highlight to yellow, green, red, or blue so you can organize your notes. Congrats, you've created a highlight!
How To Create Notes
The menu box also presents the following tools:
- Make a note
- Create a flashcard
- Copy the selected text (when available)
- Create a citation
- Remove the selection
To create a note, click the "Note" icon (an image of a piece of paper with a pencil). This will bring up a text box on the right side of the screen. Enter some information about the highlighted text and click "Save" - the blue button in the bottom right corner of the text box - to complete your note!
The note will remain to the right of the text as a colored circle that you can click to reopen:
How To Review Your Highlights and Notes
To revisit your notes at any time, click the 4 horizontal bars in the top left corner of the screen to open a sidebar menu. There you will see the same paper-and-pencil “Notes & Highlights" icon. If you're reading with text-to-speech, listen for the phrase “Notes & Highlights.”
Clicking on “Notes & Highlights” will bring up all the notes you made in the eBook, organized by section. You can navigate through your notes by clicking them and jumping back to the text they reference. You can also search for keywords within your notes to quickly find exactly what you're looking for!
