Highlighting, Note-Taking, and Creating a Study Guide

RedShelf’s eReader provides students with highlighting, note-taking, and study guide tools to make studying more effective.

Highlighting

Highlighting text allows you to take an active role as a learner. Here is how to do it in our eReader:

1. If you are on a computer, click and drag your cursor to select the text you wish to highlight. If you are using a phone or tablet, press and hold with your finger, then drag.
2. Release the cursor/your finger to pull up a menu box.
3. Select one of the four colors (yellow, green, red, blue) from the menu box.

 Congrats, you've created a highlight!

Note-Taking

Creating notes on RedShelf is like creating highlights.  

1. If you are on a computer, click and drag your cursor to select the text you wish to annotate. If you are using a phone or tablet, press and hold with your finger and then drag.
2. Release the cursor/your finger to pull up the menu box.
3. Click the notepad icon (an image of a piece of paper with a pencil).
4. Type your notes in the text box which appears on the right side of the page.
5. Click the blue Save button.

Congrats! You’ve created a note!

Review Your Highlights and Notes

To view a note while reading, click on the colored circle on the right side of the page.

To review a specific note or highlight:

1. Click on the Sidebar Menu label in the top left corner of your window.
2. Select Notes & Highlights.
3. Search for specific notes by keyword in the search bar under Notes & Highlights. You can also scroll to look through your notes in the order you created them. .
4. Click on a note to jump to the text it references.

Creating a Study Guide

RedShelf’s Study Guide tool presents notes from different chapters in one place. To create a study guide:

1. Navigate to the Sidebar Menu and select Study Guide.
2. This is your Study Guide, where you can see all your highlights and notes together in one place! To do this, select the desired chapters and click the Open Notes button and the bottom of the dropdown menu.
3. Click the arrow to the right of the note to jump to the text it references.
